Laredo is the fourth stop on a 14-game, nine-city road trip for the Rapid City Rush (1-0-3), whom the Bucks (2-2-0) will face off against in approximately 40 minutes.
Rapid City has kept every game it's played in close, losing three in shootouts and beating the Corpus Christi IceRays 8-2 on Friday. Actually, I guess that wasn't very close.
The players are taking the ice for warmups as I type, and I'm not sure I'm as impressed by the Rush's uniforms as Brian Sandalow was. Not bad, certainly, but Cigarroa football's home black and blues are still my favorite uniforms I've seen since I got down here.
Both teams are coming off two straight night games and will be playing on few hours of rest, but hopefully that won't have any effect on the intensity of the contest.
Greg Rajan has his game story and more from the Bucks' 3-1 win over the IceRays last night, and some "Sunday reading," which includes this class. I'm no Canadiens fan, but that is super cool.
But back to today's game....
Miguel Beaudry will be starting in net for the Rush, while Sebastien Centomo is the man for the Bucks.
Centomo also started last night for Laredo, making his third 31-save performance since joining the Bucks in his third game with the team.
Beaudry had last night off, but saved 16 of 18 shots from Corpus in Rapid City's win on Friday night.
You can read the pre-game notes for this contest here and Bryan Benway's preview here.
CHL Supervisor of Officials Wayne Bonney is making his rounds around the league and will be sitting in on this afternoon's game. He was watching footage of Tuesday's game between the Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs and Mississippi RiverKings when I arrived. That contest was actually pretty tame penalty-wise compared to most this season, with only 19 penalties, four of which were for fighting.
Today's other CHL game will be played in Oklahoma City as the Blazers host the Colorado Eagles. They will begin at 5:10 p.m.
Because all 30 NHL teams played yesterday (first time since 2005 they've all played on the same day), there are not any NHL games tonight.
