Day Two

First things first, here is my story from today's Times about the opening day of camp and the importance of having No. 1 goaltender Sebastien Centomo with the team from the start.

Anyway, here are the lines that were skating together at the morning practice today:

Red Jerseys: Kevin Hurley, Mike Richard, Bobby Russell.

Yellow Jerseys: Igor Agarunov, Jason Dixon, Shaun Norrie.

Green Jerseys: Alex Goupil, Matt Summers, Joey Moggach.

Blue Jerseys: Ryan Fuller, Brett Hopfe, Erick Lizon.

As you may have noticed, player/assistant coach Jeff Bes was not suited up as a forward for the practice. He had on a dark blue defenseman's jersey but was still skating and participating in drills. He leaves for the meetings between CHL owners and the Professional Hockey Players' Association tonight and will not return until around 10 p.m. on Thursday. That does not affect the team's game plan in the slightest as Bes was not expected to play in any preseason contests.

Richard has some fast hands, and I'm pretty certain he scored the most goals during drills today. And you don't need me to tell you this, but Centomo is very good. He stopped nearly everything that came at him, including plenty of shots on rebounds.

Rookie goalie Mike Collichio sustained the first (very minor) injury of the season as he got hit in the face and had to get some minor medical attention from trainer Bobby Moore. The new equipment manager tried to get him to change his goalie mask (he wears a very old-fashioned contraption with a large basket cage) after the fact, but Collichio wasn't having it. He was, however, back on the ice just a few minutes after leaving it.

He and all of the young guys seem to be getting along great with the older players, and they are all asking lots of questions. Coach is very hands-on and has been going one-on-one with a lot of the kids to make sure they pick up on everything exactly the way he wants. It's funny how you can tell how badly someone messed up based on how loudly coach blows his whistle.

I'll be heading over to the afternoon practice again today, so I'll be back on here with more later.

Like I said before, Centomo is not only good he's great. I think he's just what we need from a goalie in terms of stopping goals and shooting down opponents. Buck fans are in for a treat this year.
