The Final Countdown

The season opener is just about 30 hours away...

Everyone seems very excited for the big day, and having the opening weekend matchups be against Rocky Mountain and Bossier-Shreveport just makes it all the more interesting.

Practice this morning was fairly short, but all of the guys stayed on after, some to practice faceoffs, others to play "juice boy" or just work on their shooting.

After the skate, while rookie forward Darryl Smith was doing his first TV interview with KLDO today, equipment manager Matt Brayfield snuck up and hit him in the face with a towel full of shaving cream; I'm curious to see if they'll use that footage on the news tonight.

Coach has been having a hard time making the final roster cuts, but he will have to do so by 3 p.m. (Apparently Mountain Time?), so we can expect to find out who's staying and going within the next few hours. I'll post those as soon as they're announced.

Out of curiosity what is "juice boy?"

Basically, "juice boy" is a game the guys play where whoever is participating takes shots on the same goalie until they score. Sometimes, they play with just one puck apiece for each turn, and sometimes they have two - one to take from outside the crease and one to move in on the goalie with. When someone scores, they can leave the ice. Whoever is left when everyone else is done scoring becomes that day's "juice boy." The name comes from the punishment for the loser, who has to fill up cups of Gatorade and place a cup in each player’s stall in the locker room...or at least that's the original rule of the game. For the Bucks, by the time the game is over, some of the guys have already left for the day, so I don't think the drink part actually transpires. They do, however, wear a weird helmet to set themselves apart from the rest of the group.

Juice boy is when all the players take a shot at the goalie, one by one and the last player that doesn't make a goal has to bring the rest of the team something to drink (juice).
