Another (Preseason) Game Day

Here is my story on last night's preseason game.

This morning's practice was a lively one, and no one really seemed down about the result of the game. After all, they get another chance to prove themselves tonight.

Sebastien Centomo will sit out again tonight to get the rookies some more playing time. This time, Mike Collichio will start, and Ryan Gibb will replace him midway through the contest. Centomo will play two periods tomorrow night.

Jeff Bes, Adam Rivet and Bobby Russell, who didn't play last night, will also sit out tonight. Alex Goupil and Steve Weidlich will also stay off the ice. That will change up for tomorrow's game against the Corpus Christi IceRays so Serge Dube can get another night off and Rivet and Russell can get some playing time. Bes is the only player expected not to suit up for any of the three preseason games.

The guys who aren't playing tonight stayed out for practice much longer than the rest of the team again today, and rookie defensemen Jeff Gilbert and Amory Mudrewich were the last two guys who are playing tonight to come off the ice.

I spoke to Coach after practice, so I'll post some of his quotes later today.

Meanwhile, it seems I've been so caught up with blogging about the Bucks that I've been slacking with the links to news about other teams.

The CHL site has started posting team previews; you can see the ones they have up so far here.

Obviously, other beat writers have been keeping up with their respective teams, so you can check out The Monitor's Brian Sandalow's blog for Rio Grande Valley Killer Bees, The Corpus Christi Caller-Times' Greg Rajan's blog for Corpus Christi IceRays news and The Loveland Reporter-Herald's Adam Dunivan's blog for Colorado Eagles news.

Rumor has it that the per diem and salary cap were raised as a result of the meetings between CHL owners and the Professional Hockey Players' Association on Wednesday and Thursday in Denver, but both increases are said to be quite minimal. No official word about that out of either camp yet.

UPDATE: I guess first-year Bees head coach Chris Brooks didn't like what he saw from forwards Shawn Houde, James Edgar and goaltender Bill Zaniboni, as all three were cut this morning. The team has also signed a new goalie, but Vice President of Communications Rich Bocchini is being pretty sneaky about revealing who that may be. Any guesses?

Joy,

First of all props to you on your game breakdown coverage. I like the period by period reporting, great work.

Here are my comments of the first pre-season game. I realize pre-season games don't count for anything other than evaluate players I do want to say it was a "promising loss". Some areas need alot of improvement and other areas just plain and simple need work especially the power play. I didn't see the team being aggressive as I'm used to seeing a Bucks team. Hopefully that will quickly improve and I think it will because that is what Coach Roscoe likes to see..aggressiveness without unneccessay penalties.

I think the vets need to remind the rookies that no matter if we're playing hopscotch, old maid cards, leap frog or pre-sesaon hockey, we don't lose to RGV or Corpus. That is unacceptable.

Joy, keep up your great work and good luck to the Bucks...keep working hard.
