Game Day No. 36

Well, the Bucks have caught a break heading into tonight's matchup with the Texas Brahmas, as All-Star defenseman Justin Kinnunen has been called up to the AHL's San Antonio Rampage.

As you may remember, Kinnunen had a hat trick in the Brahmas' 4-1 win over the Bucks at the LEC on Jan. 3.

But the bigger news around the Southeast Division today seems to be the fact that Dustin Traylen appears to have walked out on the IceRays, as Greg Rajan saw him clean out his locker and leave the American Bank Center following last night's game. Here's what Rajan has about it:

And then we had some postgame drama, as Dustin Traylen's dressing-room stall was cleaned out. He was seen leaving the arena with his gear, but I was talking with Terry Ruskowski when that happened. I asked Sylvain Cloutier about Traylen's status, but he declined comment and said he likely would address the situation on Saturday.

Pretty crazy stuff. I have no way of getting in touch with anyone who would know about the situation, nor am I sure if it's my business to do so, but I will be sure to update as soon as any information is made public. If you're interested, there is a thread about it on the IceRays' CHL Forum.

Additionally, IceRays defenseman Jozef Sladok, possibly my favorite name in the division, has been granted leave by the league. Hopefully everything's okay with him and his family.

In other divisional news, the Rio Grande Valley Killer Bees finally got veteran forward Ryan Shmyr back...only to lose rookie defenseman Jesse Perrin. The team announced today that the latter has been placed on the IR, while the former should be in the lineup for tonight's rematch with the Amarillo Gorillas.

Meanwhile, former Killer Bee Travis Banga had two goals in the Brahmas' 5-0 win over the Arizona Sundogs last night, marking his first points with the Brahmas since joining them last week.

Due to that Brahmas' win, the Bucks cannot take over first place tonight no matter what, in spite of their 6-3 victory over the IceRays last night. I'm pretty sure that's the first time an out-of-town game story has gotten a comment on our Web site.

Rajan has a more in-depth look at the game, and the Caller-Times has a fun photo gallery.

As far as the Killer Bees, Brian Sandalow had the story on their 17th win of the season, which surpassed last season's total just over halfway through.

I need to go type up some soccer scores and attempt to edit my brother's application essay for Rutgers right now, but I'll post more about tonight's game in a bit...or when it starts.

UPDATE: Well, this doesn't exactly settle anything, but it's a pretty sure sign that Traylen is gone for good, at least as far as the IceRays are concerned:

I can't really tell you much about Delbuono, but his juniors team has quite a hilarious name. Oh, and he was cut by the IceRays when they finalized their regular season roster in October.

Oh, and while I was glancing at the CHL headlines on Our Sports Central, I noticed that former Sundogs defenseman David Schlemko has been called up by the Phoenix Coyotes. If he can last up there for a little over a week, I might get to see him play Tuesday after next.

ANOTHER UPDATE: I guess I'm bound to miss things when the Bucks are on the road and CHL TV fails to comply with my efforts to watch it, but it seems Darryl Smith left last night's game with an injury, as per Bryan Benway's blog:

He played just the first period last night as he took a hard hit late in the first. He had ice bags on all night, and is not sure what his status is for tonight against the Brahmas.

That could be a big loss for the Bucks if he has to miss tonight's game. On a lighter note, this is the cutest thing ever (Okay, I say that a lot.):

As a matter of fact the old Sea Bass brought a build-a-bear on the trip for the little young Sea Bass (if he has to get out for the birth on this trip). And can you guess, the build-a-bear is a hockey goalie. go figure!
