The Bucks announced earlier today that defenseman Jeff Gilbert, a recent graduate of Division I Robert Morris University, will be a member of the team's 2008 training camp lineup. Gilbert joins goaltender Ryan Gibb on the official roster.
I will have a story about the signing in tomorrow's Times, but for now you can get more information from the release on the Bucks' website.
One stat that jumps out about Gilbert is the fact that nine of his 16 collegiate goals came on the power play. With the possibility of defensive special teams star Serge Dube retiring, gaining another d-man who can produce on the power play is definitely a good move for Laredo. I'll be sure to talk to coach about that for tomorrow's story.
UPDATE: Apparently Coach Ruskowski is flying from Mexico (assumably there to attend the aforementioned Dube's wedding) to Houston and is impossible to contact today. His plane isn't expected to land until 11 p.m. CST, which equals midnight in New Jersey (where I am currently), so I guess those quotes will have to wait.
