Desi Out

EuroHockey.net, one of the more useful sources of information I've come across, has not been functioning on my computer (or possibly at all?) for the past couple of days. Because of that, I just discovered that center Andrew Desjardins has signed with the ECHL's Phoenix Roadrunners for the 2008-09 season. The signing was announced on Monday.

Last season, Desjardins had 22 goals and 37 assists for 59 points - the third-highest total among CHL rookies - and was subsequently a finalist for the Rookie of the Year award. He was superb as the center man for the Jeff Bes-James Hiebert line but was moved off of it toward the end of the year and for most of the playoffs to make room for late-season addition Chris Stanley. Desjardins had two goals and four assists in the Bucks' 11 postseason games.

Desjardins is the second 2007-08 Buck to sign a deal with another team, but Coach Ruskowski maintains that Steve Simoes signing with the Saint-Francois Sherbrook does not mean he is not coming back to Laredo next season. Desi, on the other hand, is probably in Phoenix to stay. If it leads to bigger and better things for him, I'm sure coach will be thrilled.
