Greg Rajan has word that the IceRays have hired Sylvain Cloutier as their coach for the 2008-09 season, leaving the Rio Grande Valley Killer Bees alone in coachless territory.
Cloutier, whose older brother Dan was an longtime NHL goaltender, has played with 14 teams in eight different leagues since starting his junior career with the Guelph Storm in 1991, including seven games with the Chicago Blackhawks during the 1998-99 season.
This is his Cloutier's first gig as a head coach, but he has been a player/assistant coach for several teams and apparently got a rousing recommendation from the one and only Barry Melrose. The IceRays have signed him for two years and have the option for a third. Expect more on this story from Rajan tomorrow.
