Today's Announcements

The Bucks announced today that rookie goaltender Dan Spence has been invited to the Calgary Flames' main camp, also noting Darryl Smith's invite to Atlanta Thrashers camp.

Spence's presence in Calgary is obviously not going to get as much attention as another player's return to the ice there, but it's a great opportunity for the kid. We'll see if he ever makes it to Laredo.

The Bucks also announced that they will hold a press conference on Wednesday to announce the re-signing of Jeff Bes for the upcoming season.

For those of you interested, the conference will be at 3 p.m. at the Whataburger location near the LEC.

I guess they decided there was no need to make any secret of this, especially since everyone knows Whataburger pressers are usually held for this purpose.

Bes has made it pretty clear how excited he is to return, especially after missing the last few months of last season with an injury. I'm sure I'll have plenty of quotes for you on Wednesday.

Smith was released, is he done or does he still have a shot with their ahl team?

The Chicago Wolves' site says Smith will be in camp starting monday. That's good, he should have no problem making that team.

So sorry for the lack of response; I was out sick this weekend and totally missed your comments. But yes, Smith started up with the Wolves today, and I'll post any updates that come up about his status there. Coach Ruskowski said today that it would be "fantastic" to have him back, but he doesn't expect or necessarily want that to happen.
