Smith Released

The Bucks are holding a press conference later this week... and Darryl Smith was released by the Chicago Wolves today.

These events may or may not have anything to do with each other, but Smith's CHL ties lie with the Bucks, so unless another AHL team picks him up or he chooses to go to the ECHL, it seems he will be headed back to Laredo.

UPDATE: I called Coach Ruskowski, and he said that he thinks Smith might have an offer from another team but he called his agent to let him know the Bucks would love for him to come back if that's something he might be interested in doing. The press conference was already tentatively scheduled as of last week, so this probably isn't what it will entail, but Smith's return is a possibility.

UPDATE 2: Upon reading Bryan Benway's blog from today, I have to guess that the press conference will be about Serge Dube and what he has decided he will do for the 2009-10 season. It's really hard to figure what his decision will be, as he has "retired" and come back before and cited the number of vets on the team (which has greatly decreased from what was expected) as a reason for not returning this season. We'll see what happens.

I really hope that Serge Dube returns back to the ice. I honestly don't think it's his time to retire. He still has his "A" game and he still runs circles aroung the newer puppies.

My adivse to Serge is this: there is nothing to think about buddy, don't retire! This young team can really use your leadership. You're a good sales rep. but you're sill one heckuva player.

You're 95% of the reason that fans attend the games.
