Give Blood, Play Hockey II

Tomorrow (Saturday), the Bucks will be hosting Give Blood, Play Hockey II for this season, and everyone who donates will get two free tickets to their game against the Arizona Sundogs at 7:30 p.m.

I'm sorry that I didn't get this up sooner, but hopefully the turnout will be a good one.

As with previous events, the South Texas Blood and Tissue Center will be on hand to take blood donations and register volunteers for future marrow donations.

With some more information, here is the center's press release about the drive:

Bucks rally Laredo at “Give Blood, Play Hockey” blood drive

Blood drive encourages everyday heroes to give the gift of life

The Laredo Bucks and the South Texas Blood & Tissue Center (STBTC) will
hold their “Give Blood, Play Hockey” blood drive on Saturday, February 28 in the Laredo
Entertainment Center’s rooms 4,5 & 6. Working with STBTC for over four years, the Bucks will
have brought in 2,003 units of blood to patients in need upon meeting Saturday’s goal of 250
donations.
BMP Radio and the Laredo Bucks, the blood drive’s two main sponsors, encourage everyone to
join them in giving the gift of life. “We should not wait for a natural disaster or a critical time to
give blood; every day is critical. Blood is needed every day and those who participate in ‘Give
Blood, Play Hockey’ are Laredo’s unsung heroes. We celebrate them and are happy to be part of
this event because it helps save lives” said Nicole Kupaks, Vice President of Business Operations
for the Laredo Bucks.
“Give Blood, Play Hockey” has united the Laredo community and encouraged them to give of
themselves time and time again helping supply more than 100 hospitals and clinics with lifesaving
blood donations. Over the years, hundreds have also joined the National Marrow Registry
in which more than 6,000 people search for a life-saving marrow match each day.
“Give Blood, Play Hockey” has also brought together Laredo media and businesses like BMP
Radio, Royal Laser Carwash, Circuit City, Lacks, and Chavarria’s Plumbing to name a few. From
radio and television public service announcements (BMP Radio stations and KGNS-TV) to a
donated billboard courtesy of Lamar Outdoor Advertising, the highest efforts are being made so
that the blood drive will be a great success for Laredo.
Saturday, all presenting donors will receive a commemorative Laredo Bucks Blood Drive T-shirt,
tickets to a future Bucks game and a variety of giveaways from sponsors.
Donors also receive a mini-physical which includes a pulse, temperature, blood pressure, and
iron level check. The results of a cholesterol screening will later be mailed to each donor.
All presenting donors will also be automatically entered to win one of five grand prizes. Anyone
at least 17 years of age weighing at least 110 pounds and in good general health may donate
blood. Donors must present identification.
