Game No. 34 - Bucks at Killer Bees

First Period: Okay, totally missed the first 20 minutes, but the Bucks jumped out to an early lead on Jay Holladay's first goal of the season just 2:42 into the game. Todd Griffith set that one up. The Killer Bees tied it at 13:57 when Joel Irving scored on assists from Topher Scott and Shaun Landolt, but Darryl Smith gave the Bucks the lead back at 15:31. Jeff Bes and Mike Looby had the assists on that one. Jarred Mohr took the only penalty of the first, hooking at 16:27, and the Bucks killed it off. After one, they lead 2-1 despite being down 17-9 on shots, meaning Kevin Desfosses has made 16 saves already. From a quick glance at Brian Sandalow's game blog, it doesn't seem much else of interest has happened so far.

Second Period: The assist on Holladay's goal has been changed to Igor Agarunov. ... Jesse Bennefield, who never seems to be held off the score sheet against the Bucks, has tied the game again at 5:47. Grant Goeckner-Zoeller has what is currently the lone assist. ... Smith gave the Bucks the lead back at 6:58 with a goal still listed as unassisted at the end of the period. It was a wraparound, apparently. ... After two, Bucks lead 3-2 despite being doubled up on shots, 30-15. ... Interesting note from Sandalow's blog: Laredo has really picked up the hitting. Doubt anyone thinks that's a bad thing.

Game Over: Sorry, definitely could not keep up in the third period, but the Bucks won 6-2 to improve to 16-11-7 (39 points) and increase their lead over the Killer Bees (16-14-4, 36 points) in the conference standings to three points. Smith had two goals and an assist, and Desfosses stopped 38 of 40 shots faced in his Bucks' debut. You can read more in Bryan Benway's press release, which points out that Bes is now tied with former player and current Texas Brahmas coach Dan Wildfong for 24th place in CHL history with 192 goals. I'll be back tomorrow with any updates and for the game against the Corpus Christi IceRays at 7:30 p.m. ... Oh yeah, Andrew Penner ended up allowing six goals on 30 shots in his Springfield Falcons' debut, so don't count on him knocking Jean-Philippe Levasseur out of the starting spot.
