Three Bucks to Start All-Star Game

The South Texas starters for the CHL All-Star Game have been announced, and Bucks goaltender Jean-Philippe Levasseur, defenseman Adam Rivet and forward Darryl Smith are among the six players given the nod.

Rio Grande Valley Killer Bees forward Jesse Bennefield and defenseman Nathan Ansell and Corpus Christi IceRays forward Justin Quenneville round out the starting lineup.

Coach Ruskowski, who will be the head coach of the South Texas team, had the final say in these decisions.

Smith will be making his second consecutive All-Star appearance after being named the MVP for the CHL team in last year's game, and Rivet will also be playing in his second All-Star Game, having made the cut in 2007.

Levasseur will be playing in his first All-Star Game, assuming he returns from his stint with the AHL's Springfield Falcons by Jan. 13.

The CHL All-Star starters will be announced tomorrow, and reserves for both teams will be named on Wednesday.

More on this after I talk to Ruskowski.

UPDATE: Not much new to say about the All-Stars, but Ruskowski did tell me that defenseman Jeremy Swanson, who's been on the 14-day injured reserve since Dec. 15 with an lower-body injury will be placed on the 30-day IR and may actually miss the rest of the season.

Additionally, Maxime Lincourt, who's missed the past two games with an upper-body injury, might have to go on the 14-day IR.

Ruskowski is still hoping to get some new personnel in time for tomorrow night's game, particularly a goalie and a forward because he is having a lot of trouble finding available defensemen and can at least move Igor Agarunov back to the blue line if he brings in a new winger or centerman.

Forward Curtis Billsten, who sat out yesterday's game with a lingering lower-body injury, will be a game-day decision tomorrow.

Regardless of whether or not the team can get a new goalie by tomorrow, expect Kyle Gajewski to get the start in net.

As far as getting Jean-Philippe Levasseur back, Ruskowski said he is, "not hoping, but praying" that will happen soon.

My story in tomorrow's Times addresses all of this, the keys to tomorrow night's game, and, of course, the South Texas All-Star starters. I'll post some excerpts from that on here tomorrow.
