Game No. 10 - Bucks vs. Killer Bees

Starters: Bucks - Benjamin Dieude-Fauvel (D), Eric Giosa (F), Cody Hamilton (D), Jean-Philippe Levasseur (G), Mike Sgroi (F), Neil Trimm (F); Killer Bees - Andy Franck (G), Joel Irving (F), Shaun Landolt (F), Jesse Perrin (F), Tom Sawatske (D), Andrew Schembri (F).

First Period: Interesting starting lineup for the Bucks. ... Nothing interesting came of that, after all, but the new top line just took advantage of its first shift of the game to put the Bucks up 1-0 at 2:09 in the period. Maxime Lincourt is getting credit for the goal, which was actually scored by a Killer Bee off an attempted centering pass from behind the net by Lincourt. No assists so far. ... Giosa is wearing No. 12 tonight, by the way. ... Mike Looby has taken the first penalty of the game, roughing at 4:24. Killer Bees are on the power play. ... Well, Giosa certainly isn't afraid to shoot, but that doesn't mean his shots are always on the net. ... That power play was killed with ease; the Bees barely even got a chance to set up at any point on the advantage. ... Robin Richards just had what was arguably his best fight of the season (certainly the best I've seen), besting Justin Kanigan in a battle of 6-foot-5 enforcer types. Kanigan landed a couple punches, but Richards landed a couple dozen and brought his opponent down for the W. ... Two of the Killer Bees' dynamic forwards have combined forces to tie the game at 9:14 in the period. Grant Goeckner-Zoeller fed a rebound to Jesse Bennefield, and Bennefield sent it home. That was the Killer Bees' eighth shot of the game. They're leading 8-6 in that category. Oh, and Mike Harr got the second assist. ... This is random, but Aaron Lee lost his helmet behind the Bucks' net a few minutes ago, and it's still out there due to the lack of stoppage in play, so he's just standing in front of the bench staring at it. Of course, the instant I typed that, Levasseur got a whistle on a glove save. ... Levasseur just kept this thing tied with a nifty save on a nice shot taken off a giveaway right in front of the Bucks' goal. ... Jarred Mohr headed to the box now at 15:11 in the period to put the Killer Bees on their second power play. Interference is the call. ... Daymen Rycroft has taken the Killer Bees' first penalty of the game with 39.1 seconds left in the period. Barring a penalty against the Bucks or a shortie by the Bees, the Bucks will either score here or start the second still on the advantage. ... Starting the second on the power play, it is. That was a slashing call, by the way. End of the period, game tied 1-1. Killer Bees lead 13-11 on shots.

Second Period: Darryl Smith has been given an assist on Lincourt's goal from the first period. ... After starting the second on the power play, the Bucks now have 37 seconds of a 5-on-3 with Harr going to the box for hooking 45 seconds into it. ... Good defensive play by Jeremy Swanson to stop Zak McClellan on a potential breakaway chance without taking a penalty. ... The Bucks have missed out on a couple of wide-open chances with Franck either down or out of the net, but I guess you have to credit the players in front of him for keeping the puck away from the Bucks to keep this thing tied. ... Irving headed to the box now at 11:51 to put the Bucks on their third power play of the game. He's in there for roughing. ... One of the things Coach Ruskowski told me yesterday was that the Bucks would need to capitalize on every chance they got tonight because there wouldn't be many. Funny thing is, there have been a few, but they have yet to do much with them. ... Up until just about 18 minutes into the period, the Killer Bees had only managed one shot to the Bucks' eight, but obviously that hasn't made much of a difference. ... The Bucks ended the first period on the power play, and now the Killer Bees will end the second that way, with Giosa headed to the box for tripping with 19.6 seconds left. .. End of the period, game tied 1-1. Bucks up 22-15 on shots. The Killer Bees will have 1:40 of a power play left when the third period begins. ... Somehow forgot to mention that Smith took a goalie interference penalty at 13:46 in the second. That power play was obviously killed.

Third Period: Killer Bees on the power play to start this one; Jeff Bes, Mohr, Adam Rivet and Smith out to kill. ... Have to give Fracnk some credit; though the Bucks have missed the net when he hasn't been playing it well, he has made a few very nice saves and is controlling rebounds fairly well. ... Bucks getting their fourth power play at 5:44 with Harr headed to the box for a holding penalty, which he pretty much committed twice before getting noticed. ... Okay, definitely give some props to Franck on that save, as he was able to grab a puck about to cross the goal line despite having one of his defenseman on top of him. Literally. ... Levasseur just stopped the first shot he's faced this period... nearly nine minutes into it. I wonder if he's getting bored. ... Killer Bees getting their first power play chance of the period with a holding call against Lance Monych at 12:51. ... I think everyone, self included, was waiting to see something from Justin Styffe other than his awesome fighting skills, and he just delivered. Great play to grab the puck and take it to the other end for a shorthanded goal to break the tie that had lasted for nearly 45 minutes (of playing time). Obviously Franck was left dead in the water out there, but the shooter still needs to hit the net and beat the goalie, and Styffe did just that before wiping out on Franck's stick (intentional?) and flying into the boards. He didn't hurt himself, don't worry. Bucks lead 2-1 with 6:10 to play. ... Well, the excitement in the crowd was certainly short-lived, as Bennefield flew into the Bucks' zone to knock the puck under Levasseur five-hole and tie it up again. That goal came at 14:08, just 18 seconds after Styffe's. ... For a guy who's supposed to be such a physical presence, Sgroi is kinda getting knocked around a lot himself tonight. ... And now Styffe is headed to the box for tripping after taking down Sean Muncy. This comes with 1:17 left in regulation. ... And now we will be 4-on-4 for the last 37 seconds as Rivet managed to draw a call against Goeckner-Zoeller. Faceoff in the Killer Bees' end. Mohr, Monych, Rivet and Schwabe out for the Bucks. ... Okay, I kid. Apparently Landolt is in the box for hooking. ... End of the period, still tied 2-2. Bucks up 33-21 on shots. Overtime for the second straight time at the LEC, second straight time between these teams and third time in four home games this season.

Overtime: The penalty time left should get cut in half now, I think, but it is 3-on-3 to start and will turn to Bucks' 4-on-3 power play in a bit. ... Mad rush around Franck about halfway through the OT period, but nothing doing. ... Bucks had the last chance of the game but could not get past Franck. Shootout city, here we come.

Shootout: Can't live blog this because I need to file my story like now, but the Bucks have opted to shoot first and sent Smith out first. He was stopped and then took out referee Dan Dreger in a slightly amusing sequence of events. ... Giosa and Looby scored to win it for the Bucks. Schembri had the lone shootout goal for the Bees.

Game Over: Bucks win 3-2, improve to 6-2-2 (14 points) and 2-0-2 at home. Levasseur remains unbeaten in regulation, improving to 5-0-1.
