Not surprisingly, Sylvain Deschatelets has been named the CHL's Player of the Week for Feb. 23-28, nabbing the honor with a strong performance in his first three games with the Bucks.
Deschatelets signed with the Bucks last Wednesday, then scored three goals and handed out four assists to help them to a 2-1 weekend, notching the game-winning tallies in each of the Bucks' two victories.
His three-point performance in Saturday's game against the Texas Brahmas proved to be a catalyst for a huge 5-1 win for the Bucks, and he posted a plus/minus ratio of plus-6 in his first week, proving to be responsible at both ends of the ice.
Deschatelets had been playing in the North American Hockey League, a low-level league of teams that rarely practice and play just once a week, so even Coach Ruskowski has been impressed with his ability to get back to playing at this level so quickly.
Turns out he wasn't there for lack of teams wanting him, though; it was just a step he had taken to stay home with his family after his wife found a good job in Quebec.
He's happy to be back playing full-time, though, and the Bucks are definitely happy to have him.
I talked to Deschatelets and Ruskowski today, about the newest Bucks' weekend and several other topics, so be sure to check out my story in tomorrow's Times for more on this honor.
I'll post the unrelated quotes on the blog as soon as I can.
